Welcome to Teen Read Week 2014 at CHS

Turn Dreams Into Reality!

Each year Crescent High School along with other middle and high schools across the country, celebrates Teen Read Week, an initiative by the American Library Association that encourages teens to read for the fun of it. This year’s theme was “Turn Your Dreams into Reality @ Your Library”. Crescent media specialist, Deborah Jordan, and career development facilitator, Michelle Parnell, collaborated to create fun lessons and activities to strengthen CHS students’ soft skills in order to make them more college and career ready when leaving high school. Students did role play activities to demonstrate positive and negative communication skills in the workplace. They also practiced their interviewing skills by participating in mock interviews. To test their abilities at reading non-verbal communication, classes divided into teams and participated in a “Name that Emoji ” relay race. To wrap up the week, students participated in a QR-Code scavenger hunt to find famous people who had failed many times before experiencing success. This was an important exercise to demonstrate the necessity of perseverance and believing in one’s ability to succeed in order turn dreams into reality!
